IN Mid Devon District Council planning applications received for week ending June 24, Tesco Stores Ltd, has applied for the removal of the Bus Gate between Joseph Locke Way and Station Approach in Crediton.
Ben Train of Tesco Stores Ltd has applied for the Variation of Condition 24(i) of planning permission 09/00244/MOUT to remove the requirement for the “Bus Gate” from the approved access road linking the development to Station Approach at land at NGR 284308 99430 (South of Exeter Road), Station Approach, Crediton.
On Monday, June 29, highway works will begin on the A377 and Joseph Locke Way, Crediton.

Tesco Stores Limited is responsible for these works and has appointed iCivils Ltd as its delivery partner for these works.
Information Boards are in place at Tesco (Wellparks) Foyer and Crediton Library.
If you have specific questions or concerns, iCivils and Devon County Council will help - DCC 0345 155 1004 or iCivils 01392 466801.
iCivils said: “Whilst we understand this may cause some disruption, please plan your journeys accordingly and allow extra time where possible.”
It will be completed in three phases:
Phase 1 (June 29 to July 24) - works to A377 at the roundabout with Joseph Locke Way and Wellparks Hill.
• A convoy system in operation will allow the travelling public access to Tesco.
• A diversion route will be in place from Cowley Bridge to Bickleigh to Crediton. (It is understood that this is to aid the time delays for lorries etc getting to the estate or through Crediton).
• Wellparks Hill to the entrance to Tarka Way will be shut for the duration of this phase.

In an unusual move, some localised one way orders will be put in place to prevent hold ups on some of the narrower roads around Crediton during the works.
The temporary one-way restrictions will be implemented on Hookway Road (Crediton Golf Course) to reach Crediton and Creedy Bridge to the Beer Engine heading towards Exeter. Signage will be in place.
Phase 2 (July 27 to August 28) - works to the north of Joseph Locke Way, between the A377 roundabout and the entrance to Tesco store.
• 2 or 3 way lights will manage traffic flow into Tesco.
Phase 3 (August 31 to October 23) - Works to re-surface Joseph Locke Way.
• Along Joseph Locke Way, 2 or 3 way lights will be moved to encompass work as it progresses.
There will be no night or weekend working.
For Phase 1 and 2, a convoy system with three-way temporary traffic signals will operate during working hours and will be in place between 9am and 4.45pm.
Phase 3 will maintain the same working hours.

The works will include resurfacing the A377, footpaths and kerb remedials.
Information Boards will be arriving soon at Tesco Foyer and Crediton Library.

The completion of the works along Joseph Locke Way, the small area of the A377 and Tesco roundabout and associated works will enable Devon County Council to officially adopt the roads when brought up to DCC’s standard.
It will mean that issues such as the lack of salting icy sections of Joseph Locke Way should be a thing of the past when the road is officially adopted by Devon County Council.
To-date the use of the unadopted Joseph Locke Way has mean’t that users insurance is not valid if using that road.
