ONE of the most eagerly anticipated Seniors matches at Downes Crediton Golf Club was played on Monday, July 10.
The annual Devonians vs the Rest of the World match saw 68 members take to the course and the Devonians continued their recent dominance with an impressive 10 ½ - 6 ½ victory.
As always the match was played in great spirit with much fun had by all.
The mid-week Stableford on Wednesday, July 12 was won by Ben Marchant with a brilliant score of 40 points with Malcolm Talbot, his nearest challenger, second scoring 38 points and James Hutchinson (37 pts) in third.
The Warren Shield and ladies County Stableford Eight was played on Thursday, July 13 and keeping up her recent fine form to take victory was Ying Wong scoring 36 points to beat Viv Bailey (36 pts) into second on countback.
Fran Shrubsole and Viv Jordan posted 33 points to finish third and fourth respectively.
Later that day Derek Shaw scored 17 points in the nine hole Thursday Evening Stableford to take victory.
Saturday, July 15 saw Downes men compete in the July Medal and Hazeldon Trophy.
With conditions perfect there looked like a score was out there and there surely was as John Cornish shot a fantastic gross 77 nett 62 to take the overall victory.
This fine score also saw John win Division Two with Dave Hill (nett 66) second and Gerry Hodder (nett 67) in third.
Mike Nott took victory in Division One shooting a fantastic gross 73 nett 65 beating James Bourner and Jamie Wright, who both posted nett 69’s, into second and third respectively.
Matt Redstone scored a nett 70 to win Division Three with Stu Phillips (nett 71) and Mark Cummins (nett 71) in second and third.
