AS we move further into December, it is inevitable that the weather influences an increasingly large part of the weekly the golfing calendar.
The regular social golfers at Downes Crediton Golf Club each morning set off on their rounds, as the conditions permit, and there are a number of competitions each week.
Last Saturday, 54 players set out on a Texas scramble which had to be reduced to nine holes because of the conditions.
Three teams came in with a score of 30 points. The winners on count back were Keith Hoskins, Kevin Quick and Philip Reid. The seniors event on Monday was a casualty of the weather.
On Tuesday, December 4, the Ladies section held their annual Christmas lunch at the Club. Twenty ladies enjoyed a traditional Christmas meal.
The lunch was preceded by a nine hole shotgun Stableford, and whilst not played in ideal conditions, everyone just about managed to stay dry.
Following lunch, presentations were held for the Autumn Meeting, and other various trophies played for during the year.
In total there were 20 trophies of various kinds. There are too many to list the individual achievements in this article, but the presentation demonstrated the huge variety of competitions throughout the year.
It was great to see everyone enjoying their lunch and receiving the trophies, as well as looking forward to playing more golf next season.
Well done to all winners and of course to all ladies who take part each week.
Golf is such a good sport, and enjoying the social side is just as important as playing the golf.
Any ladies reading this who would like to see if golf would suit them, the club would be delighted to welcome you. The Ladies Section wishes all our fellow golfers a very Happy Christmas.
