AS the festive season approaches some of the more unusual competitions will take place during the week.

Given the excessive amount of rain that has fallen in the last few weeks, the competitions have had daily modifications imposed on them. This depends on the weather the day or so before each competition.

On Monday the Seniors section had a curtailed nine hole event, imaginatively called The 1-2-3 Waltz.

Whilst the weather put a few members off, a reasonable number of Seniors enjoyed their waltz. The winners with a respectable 38 points were John Piper, Nigel Hoskins and Stephen Ebdon. Their win however didn’t put them forward to the final of Strictly Come Dancing!

The Ladies Thursday competitions also suffered from an abundance of overnight rain and two planned competitions were rolled into one.

This was a nine hole, front nine event, which took place in mild and bright winter sunshine. A relatively small field took on the course and the elements, and then enjoyed the hospitality of the 19th hole for a well earned drink and some lunch.

The winner of the competition, was Anne Woodger, with Fran Shrubsole in second place and Viv Bailey in third position.

The Saturday competition was the best supported this week. Possibly the reason for this was in the seasonal title of the competition.

Open to all, the December Spirit Stableford attracted over seventy entries, with great enthusiasm for the prizes.

Again overnight heavy rain meant there were last minute adjustments to the course, which was reduced to sixteen holes for the event. However on the day itself the sun shone, and with little or no wind the course looked at its winter best.

Carrying home the much desired main spoils from the event were Matthew Russell, Kevin Perry and Paul Sandercock.
