DOWNES Crediton Golf Club ladies finally got to play a competition on Thursday, April 5, after all of the terrible weather that we have endured recently.
Playing their first county stableford of the season, a strong field saw handicaps reduced by three-quarters due to five temporary greens but this didn’t stop Sue Bond scoring 30 points to take first place overall and also win Division Two.
Sue’s score beat Lyn Parry (30 pts), who won Division One, into second overall whilst Shirley Stunell finished third posting 29 points.
The first of the year’s Thursday evening stableford’s was played last week and it was close at the top as Mark Harris started the new season with a brilliant 22 points to take top spot as Daryl Pidgeon scored 20 points to finish second.
Friday evening (April 6) saw Downes Captain, Nick Murch, host the first of this year’s Captain’s Social Nights.
Nearly 40 members turned out for a 5.30pm shotgun start nine-hole cross country competition followed by a grill night and US Masters golf viewing.
In the golf Steve Whyte took victory in the men’s section scoring 21 points whilst Sue Bond kept up her winning streak scoring 16 points to win the ladies.
A fun night was had in the clubhouse post golf leaving members looking forward to the next event in May.
