A TOTAL of 75 senior members of Downes Crediton Golf Club took on the annual challenge of the seniors greenkeepers revenge on Monday, March 6,

As always the event saw the green staff position the pins in some very tricky and interesting places. The trio of Eric Mundy, Bob Rippon and Martin Rutley were up to that challenge though and scored a very fine nett 67 in the Texas scramble format to take the victory.

Two teams scored nett 69’s with Quinn-Payne Cook, Peter Bryan, and Ian Pring finishing second virtue of a better back nine with Bill Dick, Eric Parkes and Paul Willcocks third.

With a large portion of the ladies section away representing the club at Saunton on Thursday, March 9 the ladies enjoyed a friendly roll-up in superb weather.

Once again, with the course in tip-top condition, there was a strong turnout on Saturday, March 11 to play a team Yellowball and Medal.

Victory in the Yellowball went to Quinn Payne-Cook, Steve Lay and Rick Eidam with a tremendous nine under par nett 61. Three shots back in second place were Tim Keehner, Tim Staite and Kez Blackmore (nett 64) with Peter Blinkhorn, Rob Hazeldine and Jon Cornish in third place scoring a nett 67.

In the team medal two scores to count Alan Draper, Josh Hill and Frank Morrell topped the leader board with fine 16 under par nett 124.

Once again Tim Keehner, Tim Staite and Kez Blackmore were in the hunt posting nett 126 to finish second with Peter Blinkhorn, Rob Hazeldine and Jon Cornish third scoring a 13 under nett 127.

The mixed event saw Gerry Hodder, Lyn Parry and Di Botterill win both events scoring a nett 70 and 123.

Sunday, March 12 saw the conclusion of the Men’s Winter Knockout and winning the final were the in-form duo of Martin Garnsey and Maurice Curtis beating Richard Belcher and Mark Dafters one-up in an exciting and close-run affair.

Downes Crediton Head Professional Barry Austin enjoyed a victory in the latest of the Devon County PGA Medals which was played at the scenic East Devon Golf Club.

Austin put together two nines of two under par 33 to post a four under par 66 and take a three shot victory over Yelverton’s Adam Frayne (69) with Staddon Heights’ Dan Hendriksen third scoring a level par 70.
