ONCE again it’s a week where the combination of long lasting low pressure weather systems with their resultant precipitation, and our rich Devon red soil, do not combine well in terms of uninhibited golf.
Approximately 40 Seniors set off on Monday for their regular weekly competition only to be threatened by the rain. However, determined Seniors do not give up very easily.
A total of 30 competitors completed the shortened nine hole event. The winning score of 30 was returned by Stephen Gidley, with Mark Walker 2nd and Clive Edmunds 3rd.
Though the sun shone on Tuesday, the saturated ground made it impossible to venture onto the course. This was particularly disappointing as the Ladies Section had organised their mixed Christmas Nine and Dine event for the morning.
Sadly the ‘Nine’ had to be abandoned though the “Dine” was still very much on.
In very short time messages appeared by email and WhatsApp.
The messages asked members to come well before lunch and join in some “fun and games”.
This note provided some interesting and amusing WhatsApp responses, but at the suggested time the fun and games began, followed by a Christmas meal.
The event was very much enjoyed by all who attended. Many thanks to the restaurant, bar and catering staff for their hard work.
On Saturday, the final event of the week was open to all, and very much in keeping with the seasonal mood.
The Poultry Stableford saw nearly 50 members escaping shopping and Christmas preparations to take part in the competition.
As the weather has been kinder in the later half of the week, the event went ahead unhindered. Talking most turkey in first place was Tommy Hall with 36pts.
Finally may we wish all our Members, Friends and visitors a most enjoyable Christmas. Here’s to 2026. Cheers everyone!
