THIS year’s seniors John Baird trophy, played at Downes Crediton Golf Club on Monday, July, 5, was won by Roger Gratton scoring a superb 41 points to take home the trophy and the Division Two prize.

Andrew Chandler finished second in Division Two with a score of 41 points but lost to a better back nine.

In Division One, Robin Abrahams came out on top with a score of 38 points while Peter Caston finished second with 37 points.

The mid week Stableford, played on Wednesday, July 7, was won by Matt Sercombe who scored 41 points.

The Ladies Club Championship, played on Tuesday, July 6 and Thursday, July 8, shaped up to be a fantastic event with Stacey Ford shooting gross 81 to take a three shot lead over defending champion Tracy Chandler, who scored gross 84 in the first round.

In the handicap it was Rebecca Aven who scored a nett 72 (one under) and took the first round lead over Tracy Chandler who scored a nett 75 (two over).

In the second round the handicap winner was Rebecca Aven who shot a second round nett 71 (two under) to finish on top while in the Scratch prize it was Stacey Ford who kept her cool shooting another gross 81 to take this year’s Club championship trophy.

Stuart Willcocks won the Thursday 9 Hole Stableford (on July 8) with a score of 20 points.

This year’s John Percival three-player team medal, played on Saturday, July 10, was won by the team of Stephan Yates, Howard Tubbs and Mark Griffin with a fantastic nett 61. They beat the team of John Smale, Andrew Rogers and John Cornish who also scored a nett 61, but lost to a better back nine to finish second.

The team of Stephan Fewings, Michael Allen and Nick Taylor scored a nett 62 to finish third.

Andy Fankum stole the show in the Sunday stableford shooting 42 points.
