A TIVERTON golfer has won a Order of Merit from England Golf.
Eliot Baker has enjoyed a tremendous year winning both the Portuguese Amateur and Scottish Men’s Open Championship.
He also finished third in the Brabazon Trophy, alongside a top-10 finish at the Spanish Amateur, and an impressive 11th-place finish at the World Amateur Team Championship (Eisenhower Trophy) – where he helped England win the bronze medal.
On the team front, Baker represented GB&I in the Walker Cup and St Andrews Trophy, and helped England win the Women’s and Men’s Home Internationals, European Cup of Nations in Sotogrande, and the annual Octagonal Match in Spain.
The 22-year-old played a key role as England won the bronze medal at the European Amateur Team Championship, and was part of the team which beat Spain in their biennial international match.
He said: “It means a lot to win the OOM, I think it’s something that rewards consistency throughout the season which is something I’m always striving to have more of.
“I was fortunate enough to have a lot of highlights from the 2025 season, individually with winning both the Portuguese and Scottish Amateur championships, as well as representing England in all six events this year and having a lot of success in that, with bringing home four trophies and two bronze medals. Another highlight was winning the St Andrews Trophy as part of the GB&I team while winning 3.5 out of 4 points.
“The main standout moment would be having the honour to represent GB&I in the Walker Cup.
“My ambitions for 2026 would be to add another win to the resume and keep up my consistency from this year. I’d also like to qualify for a major championship, while my main ambition is to play my way onto the GB&I Walker Cup team at Lahinch in September.”
