MONDAY, July 31 saw Downes Crediton Golf Club seniors play the Joe Liversage four ball betterball competition.

The competition is held in memory of Joe Liversage one of the club’s past captains and very influential member who is sorely missed by all so a lot of heart and soul went into this competition taking the win was the pair of John Essery and John Hooper with a brilliant score of 44.

They were followed by Den Conibear and Edward Copp, also with 44 but losing to a better back nine.

The winner of the mid week stableford on Wednesday, August 2 was Terry Branbury with a brilliant score of 39 points. He beat Paul Sandercock and Hayden Morris who both had 37 points.

Ros McIntyre took the spoils this week in the ladies LGU medal, played on Thursday, August 3, with a good score of 79 to beat Viv Bailey who scored a 83 and Diane Botterill who scored 84.

The Thursday evening stableford was a qualifier and winner was Neil Allport with a great score of 19 points.

Saturday, August 5 saw the annual John Veale Challenge charity day. This has always been a fantastic event that raises a lot of money and this year was no exception.

The four-player team two scores to count betterball was won by Downes’ very own Captain, Alex Williams and his partners Sam and Matt Dyne and Mike Delling with a brilliant score of 92.

There was also a individual stableford running as well and that was won Kate Cornish with a huge score of 43 points.

But the biggest competition of the day was the hole-in-one car on the 18th which unfortunately had no takers but with that said the day raised more than £1,800 for the captain’s charity, Honeylands Children’s Charity.
