MONDAY, March 25 saw Wally Phillips steal the show at Downes Crediton Golf Club’s seniors roll up scoring a superb 41 points to take the top spot.

He was followed by Peter Dewhurst who scored 38 points to finish second while Andrew Chandler finished third with 36 points.

Thursday, March 28 saw Downes ladies play a three ball better ball stableford (two scores to count) competition and it was the team of Diane Botterill, Shirley Stunell and Anne Woodger who claimed top spot with a brilliant score of 65 points, while the team of Susan Bonner, Lyn Parry and Annet Coles finished second with 64 points and the team of Joyce Gilg, Joe Coe and Sue Jackson finished in third place with 64 points.

Saturday, March 30 saw the start of our new incoming captains in this year’s Captains Drive In and it was the team of Mark Ainscough, Paul Gidley, Dave Macpherson and Tommy Gibbs who came in top spot with a fantastic nett 60 (10 under) to beat the team of Ben Dommett, Paul Conabeare, Tony Blackburn and Graham Knowles who finished second with a score of nett 61.

It was the new junior captain Leah Jackaman who took the best mixed prize with her team of Stewart Cowling, Andy Jackaman and Duncan White, with a fantastic score of nett 63 (seven under).

Afterwards the club had the traditional captain’s putt out to say goodbye to its out going captains. This saw Nick Murch, Sue Barra and Alan Draper all putt out as captains for the last time while Graham Dyne (Club Captain), Shirley Stunell (Ladies Captain), Jim Enright (Seniors Captain) and Leah Jackaman (Junior Captain) all drove in to start the season as captains and the club wishes them the best of luck for the future.
