IT will come as no surprise to regular readers of the Crediton Courier that there hasn’t been a great deal of golf played at Downes Crediton this week!

Indeed in the big scheme of things Golf has been way down the pecking order.

Looking at the many and varied photographs and posts on social media, many folks have had a difficult time because of the exceptional weather conditions.

On the course, our ground staff have had to postpone their regular jobs that are planned for this time of year, in order to clear up the debris around the course.

They have been aided by some willing volunteers who turned out and gave their time to assist with a clearing.

Even in normal conditions this is a quieter time of year for golf in general.

The keen enthusiast will turn out come rain or shine, but many of us fair weather golfers wait for the sun to shine, before venturing forth on to the fairways.

However, while it may be a quieter time on the course, planning for the New Year goes ahead at a pace. There is much to arrange.

This is the time of the year that AGM’s are held. An AGM is a time to reflect on the year past, a year in which there was much to celebrate.

It’s a time to plan for the year ahead, which will be a milestone year for Downes Golf Club.

A time for members to offer up ideas and suggest ways in which they can help the Club in the coming year.

It is good to realise that when the golf is at its quietest, many plans are being put in place for the busy year ahead. Plans for when the weather improves, when the sun shines again on the fairways and greens.
