DAVID Cousins stole the show on a tough day (Monday, April 23) at Downes Crediton Golf Club with a superb nett 65 (five under par) to win the Senior’s April Medal.
Cousins’ score gave him a four-shot victory over second placed Peter Russell (nett 69) with Mike Charnock (nett 71) following on in third.
The winner of the Midweek Stableford played on Wednesday, April 25 was Jim Hutchison who scored a superb 40 points.
Downes Ladies played their County Stableford 3 on Thursday, April 26 and Shirley Stunell scored 31 points to take the overall victory and Division One.
Tracey Chandler also posted 31 points to follow in second place whilst Sue Bonner (31 pts) topped Division Two.
Stewart Cowling won the Thursday Evening Stableford scoring 18 points.
Downes members played in the Rosemary Parker Memorial Stableford on Saturday, April 28 with present and past Captains of all sections of the club having the opportunity to win the 40th Anniversary Jug.
Mark Harris took the overall victory and topped Division One posting an impressive 40 points with Darren Clifford scoring 38 points to take second place.
This year’s Club Captain Nick Murch scored 38 points to take Division Two and also win the 40th Anniversary Jug on his first attempt.
Division Three was won by Matt Redstone (35 pts) whilst Tracey Chandler was the leading lady posting a fine 38 points.
Club Matches
All Downes sections enjoyed success on the team front last week with the ladies and seniors notching up fine victories.
Firstly, on Wednesday, the Ladies played their first Sheelah Creasy Match of the season against Churston and achieved a fantastic 7-0 win which was followed on Friday by the seniors hammering Bigbury 8 – 1½ in the Emerton Court.
