DOWNES Crediton Golf Club Seniors played a Two Player Texas Scramble on Monday, October 10 and it saw the duo of Jim Kenshole and Dave Vowden score a fine nett 65 for the overall victory.

Also scoring a nett 65, but losing out on the back nine to finish second, were the pair of Frank Sanders and Trevor Stone with Nick Staddon and Laurie Taylor (nett 66) following in third.

On Thursday, October 13, Downes ladies competed in the annual Daily Mail Foursomes qualifier to see who would go on to represent the club in next year’s national event.

Winning were the strong pair of Fran Shrubsole and Lynn Parry whose 35 point haul saw them take victory over Rebbeca Aven and Angela Storey (33pts) by two points. Sue Barr and Ying Wong (32pts) followed in third. Joyce Gilg won the Nine-Hole Stableford scoring 16 points.

Saturday, October 15, saw Downes members come together to play in the annual Charity Day Competition.

Winning the three player, two scores to count team stableford were the trio of David Slee, Gerry Tomlinson and Graham Scarrott with a superb 85 point total.

Following in second were Robin Tooze, Phil Beasley and Ricky Buttle posting 83 points with Paul Conabeare, Mark Dafters and Phil Cope (82pts) third. The leading mixed prize went to Katie Cornish, Jon Cornish and Andrew Rogers with a 81 point total.
