After a frustrating week on the golf course following storms Eunice and Franklin the weekend saw some great golf as members enjoyed a Team Club Competition and Winter Open at Downes Crediton Golf Club.

Steve Yates, Howard Tubbs and Mark Griffin swept the board on Saturday, February 26 as they won both the Team Yellowball and Team Medal Competitions.

Firstly the Yellowball saw them post a two under par 68 to beat Adam Hull, Tony Wonnacott and Steve Blackmore (nett 69) into second, whilst the trio of John Warren, David Woodstock and Robin Tooze (nett 71) were placed third.

In the Team Medal their superb score of superb nett 129 (11 under) once again secured a single shot victory this time over Mike Charnock, Andrew Rogers and Jon Cornish (nett 130).

Following in third with a 133 total were Rodin Mackay, Neil Wood and Mike White.

A bumper field of 93 members and visitors descended on Downes Crediton on Sunday, February 27 to take part in the ever popular Winter Open.

With the course playing nicely but long, the trio of Downes member, Steve Peake and Teignmouth’s Jeff and Chris Boorer put in a stunning performance to score a fine 90 points (18 under) to take a richly deserved victory.

The Fingle Glen threesome of Chris Pope, Craig Fleet and Justin Wee followed in second posting 88 points whilst Sam Hills (Downes), Lee Sylvester and Rob Vaughan (Fingle Glen) finished third with 82 points.
