WINNERS of Downes Crediton Golf Club Seniors competitions from 2017 got together on Monday, October 2 to compete for the Medal Winners Cup.

On a tough day Frank Sanders took the glory scoring a nett 73 to win by two shots from Jim Dunlop.

The rest of the seniors played a roll up stableford and Wally Phillips posted 38 points for the victory. Alan Willey and Tom Berry both scored 36 points to finish second and third respectively.

On Wednesday, October 4 Clive Elliott won the Min Lwin Trophy, an individual stableford from the yellow tees, scoring 36 points. Mark Clements equalled Elliott’s score but lost out on the back nine to finish second whilst Ben Marchant posted 35 points for third.

On a wet day, where conditions were tough, Viv Bailey and Viv Jordan put together a fine 32 points in the “Daily Mail” Foursomes on Thursday, October 5 to take victory by a single point.

Doreen Warren and Fran Shrubsole scored 31 points for second place with Di Parsons and Lyn Parry in third place with 30 points.

Downes Crediton hosted its final Open of 2017 on Friday, October 6, The Norman Sutton Memorial Open, a four-player team two scores to count medal.

Home members Oliver Greenslade and Tony Wonnacott teamed up with visitors Dave Wonnacott (Libbaton) and James Tucker (Fingle Glen) to romp to victory with a very impressive nett 122, 18 under par.

Second place went to Jim Kenshole, Pete Carr, Kev Woolacott and Dave Vowden scoring a nett 125 whilst Jamie Wright, Richard Ebbage, Rob Buglass and Ian Burgess finished third scoring nett 127.

On Saturday, October 7, a far from easy day, Scott Singleton stole the show in the Men’s October Medal posting a stunning gross 74 nett 62 to take a much deserved victory.

This left, in second place, Peter Blinkhorn, whose impressive nett 64 would have taken the win on any other day.

Both players topped the First and Third Divisions with Matt Russell winning Division Two scoring a nett 68.
