SENIORS competed for their Club Championships at Downes Crediton Golf Club on Monday, July 26 and Wednesday, July 28 with some hard-fought battles along the way.

Run-away winner in Division One, and retaining his crown, was Martin Howe whose rounds of 76+79 (156) gave him a nine shot victory over second placed Robin Abrahams (81+83=164).

Division Two saw Eddie Trick take the honours scoring 87+79 (166) to finish two shots clear of Laurie Taylor (84+84=168) whilst in Division Three it was George Crabbe who was crowned champion posting 92+96 (188) a single shot clear of Cyril Dawes 96+93 (189).

The leading nett score over the 36 holes was also Martin Howe with scores of 66+69 made for an impressive 135 total.

Nick Taylor and Stu Laws both posted 38 points in Midweek Stableford on Wednesday, July 28, but it was Nick who took the win by virtue of a better back nine holes.

In the Ladies County Stableford, held on Thursday, July 9, Di Botterill was in fine form as she scored 40 points to win overall, as well as top Division Two, whilst in Division One Shirley Stunell took top spot scoring 38 points.

The nine hole Stableford, played on Thursday, July 29, was won by Stu Willcocks with a superb 22 points.

David Lee won the annual Kenmar Trophy with a fine 40 points, two points clear of second placed Paul Fricker (28pts)

Downes members came together on Saturday, July 31 to compete in the fun Greenkeepers Revenge and say thank you to the sterling efforts of the green staff who have produced a course in wonderful condition throughout the season.

There were a trio of nett 62’s scored, but it was the team of Podge Edgecumbe, Wayne Moore and Peter Huda that came out on top with Graham Browne, Josh Murphy and Paul Reeder second and Kate Cornish, Robert Money and Jerry Thornton third.

On Sunday, August 1, Jake Kibbey won the first Junior 9 hole Stableford, of the season scoring a superb 21 points.
