THIS year’s Grandad’s Trophy at Downes Crediton Golf Club was played on Monday, October 1 with Gerry Hodder taking top spot in Division One with a brilliant score of 40 points.

Gerry’s score beat Tom Berry into second place with a score of 39 points with Simon Mannell finishing third with 38 points.

Dave Jordan stole the show by winning Division Two and the Grandad’s Trophy with a tremendous score of 40 points. He was followed by Paul Dorothy who scored 38 points and Rick Eidam finished third with 37 points.

Steven Bassett won this year’s Min Lwin Trophy on Wednesday, October 3 scoring a superb 40 points beating Ben Marchant who scored 38 points.

It was Fran Shrubsole who won the 11th of the ladies county stableford’s (breast cancer charity stableford) with a terrific score of 39 points to be top spot in Division One. She was followed by Betty Willey who scored 34 points.

In Division Two Trish Wallis took top spot with a score of 35 points while Diane Parsons finished second with 32 points.

In the nine hole stableford Diane Botterill stole the show with a great score of 18 points.

Friday, October 5 saw Downes’ annual Norman Sutton Memorial four-man team open which saw the team of Kevin Grant, Chris Parker, Roy Ireland and Les Jones finish in first place with a brilliant score of 121 (19 under).

They beat the team of Joe Hull, Simon Baker, Adrian Cram and David Bunclark who also score 121 but was beaten by a better back nine.

The final of the year’s medal was played on Saturday, October 6 and it was Quintin Payne-Cook who stole the show winning this year’s Norman Sutton October medal and Division One.

Scoring a fantastic nett 65 gross 74, Quintin beat Chris Bruce who also scored 65 but lost to a better back nine but won Division Two.

In Division Three David Bunclark took top spot with a brilliant score of 66 in the scratch and Oliver Greenslade shot a gross 73 to win the final scratch medal.

The final day of the summer knockouts were played on Sunday, October 7 as Rodin Mackay and Kev Cole beat Matt Dyne and Gary Price in the final of the Scratch foursomes 6 and 5 to be crowned this year’s champions.

In the afternoon Matt Dyne and Chet Greenslade beat Steve Whyte and Tristan Kershaw 4 and 3 to win the Stan Setter fourball betterball trophy.

In other results Steve Blackmore won the Conibear Cup (Handicap singles matchplay) while Jason Arnold and Ben Rowe took the Gardner Slaver (Handicap Foursomes matchplay).

James Bourner won the Sunday stableford scoring a brilliant 38 points with Joe Hull finishing second with 37 points and Ollie Bird in third with 37 points, losing to a better back nine.
