WITH the Downes Crediton Golf Club course playing beautifully, Monday, July 2 saw the Seniors post some fine scores in the July Medal.

Jim Dunlop scored a superb nett 66 (four under par) to win overall by a single shot. He also topped Division One with Paul Fricker (nett 76) second and Pete Russell (nett 68) third.

Division Two saw Ron Clark take the honours scoring a nett 67 whilst a nett 68 from Graham Jones was good enough for second.

Downes members competed for the annually played Shiphams Trophy on Wednesday, July 4 and it was Jason Hayman who scored 44 points to secure a fine victory.

Roger Field posted 40 points for second place whilst Neil Chard and Jim Dunlop scored 39 points to place third and fourth respectively.

Last week also saw Downes ladies compete for their Club Championship playing 18 holes on Tuesday (July 3) and 18 holes on Thursday (July 5).

With good scores being posted over the two days it was Sue Jackson that stormed through the field in the second round with a gross 87 nett 64 (nine under par) to take the win and be crowned Club Champion.

Doreen Warren posted two solid rounds of nett 72 (one under par) for a 142 total (two under par) to take the Handicap Championship.

Saturday, July 7 saw the July Medal dominated by Lee Perrott as he sailed around Downes in a stunning nett 62 (eight under par) to take victory by four clear shots.

Perrott also topped Division Three with the ever-consistent Matt Redstone (nett 66) second and Dave Sims (nett 71) in third.

Will Cockerham won Division One with a nett 72 beating Richard Dyer (nett 72) into second place by virtue of a better back nine holes.

Division Two winner was Michael White who scored a nett 69.
