THE Don McRae Trophy for Downes Crediton Golf Club seniors was played on Monday, July 24 and saw a packed field and glorious conditions which meant scoring was likely to be good.

With a brilliant score of 65, and taking the trophy and Division One, was Jim Dunlop, Following behind him was Alan Draper with a great score of 66 and in third with an equally great score of 67 and wining Division Two was Colin Cole.

Simon Mannell took the winnings in the mid-week stableford on Wednesday, July 26 with a very impressive score of 40 points. In second place was James Hutchinson with 38 points beating Steven Bassett on countback who also had 38 points.

The Thursday, July 27 evening stableford was a qualifier and winner was John Smale with 19 points.

Saturday, July 29 saw the annual 21st century flag medal with the course in fantastic condition and, with the weather being very kind to the players, it was always going to be a low scoring day.

The bench mark was set high early on with Sam Hills shooting a terrific 73 gross nett 64 to set the mark of the second tee for the flag to be beaten which it was not.

In second place was Kevin Smith with a brilliant score of 66 just narrowly missing out and in third place was John Piper with 67 beating Ollie Greenslade on countback who couldn’t make it three times in a row.

Barry Austin
