SUNDAY, April 27 saw the club hosting a qualifying round of the Faldo Series Golf.
This is a competitive tournament of golf competitions which has three levels of inclusive events for young people from the age of seven up to 25 years old.
The aim of the series is to encourage and promote young golfers at a competitive level. As the series progresses, the young golfers will take part in high-level amateur events, with the goal of eventually accessing professional tour events.
Last weekend, the competition at Downes was for seven to 12 year olds, and played as a nine-hole competition, over a shortened course.
These qualifying events are designed to attract as many children as possible to come and participate.
The winners go forward to play rounds at other local golf clubs throughout the UK. The top two players, plus ties from each division, qualify for the regional finals.
These take place at selected venues across the UK. The top three players, plus ties from each division, qualify for the Faldo Futures Final at The Belfry.
We must say well done to Paul Luxton, who hit a peach of a shot on the 155-yard 11th hole over the Easter weekend to record a hole-in-one.

Our assistant pro Ollie, who witnessed the shot, said it was a slam-dunk straight into the cup. Great shot with the pin right at the back of the green. Congratulations Paul, drinks are on you!
