SATURDAY, October 10 was a big day in the Downes Crediton Golf Club calendar, with the Champions Trophy followed by the club’s annual prize-giving.
This year there was a new format. The presentation of the trophies took place immediately after the Champions Trophy competition, which was a great success bringing everyone together for a lively afternoon in the clubhouse.
The Champions Trophy brings together the season’s individual medal division winners, Stableford winners and annual matchplay trophy winners.
With plenty of silverware-winning talent in the field, Steve Whyte rose to the occasion, returning a superb nett 67 to claim the trophy. A fine score with so much at stake!
Club Captain Gerald Abdoll, looking resplendent in his club attire, hosted proceedings and presented the season’s trophies.
In total there were 41 competitions of various kinds that had medal, trophy or shield presentations.
It would be impossible to include a full list of winners in this article. The names are recorded on the club website, and many displayed on the wooden trophy boards in the clubhouse.
The entire collection of winners was photographed after the presentations.
Congratulations to all of the winners, in all the different events throughout the season. Thanks to everyone who stayed to applaud their achievements and help make the occasion such an enjoyable one.
It’s also a fitting moment to recognise the progress made across the Club this year.
Everyone is immensely proud of the improvements to the course, with visiting teams, societies and green-fee players regularly complimenting its condition. New initiatives by the catering staff have brought many non golfers to the club.
Finally a huge thank you to the green keeping, bar, and kitchen teams. Your hard work makes all the difference, on and off the course.
