SOUTH MOLTON RFC 1ST XV 40-12 CREDITON RFC 2ND XV

THIS week the 2nd XV made the trip to South Molton for another tough test against 1st XV opposition. It has been a difficult start to the season, but the lads have shown improvement week on week and, despite the result, that progress continued.

After losing the toss, we found ourselves playing downhill in the first half. For the opening 40 minutes, the game was a closely contested affair. We matched South Molton in all areas, with both sides putting together some good passages of play and scoring well worked tries.

The second half proved to be a different challenge. South Molton took full advantage of the slope and their knowledge of the pitch, keeping us pinned deep in our own corner for long periods. Despite our best efforts, we struggled to gain territory consistently enough to relieve the pressure. Our hosts made the most of their opportunities, adding several unanswered tries to pull away on the scoreboard.

To the lads' credit, heads never dropped and the effort never wavered. We continued to battle until the final whistle and can take plenty of positives from another improving performance. Congratulations to South Molton on the win.

Scorers: Tries – Euan Philip, Joe Stanbury; Conversion – Jake Kibbey.
