AS we move further into October the weather pattern changes to something that is more usual for the time of year, but it doesn’t deter golfers.

As always, there’s a busy week of casual golf and regular tournaments.

On Monday, it was the turn of the Seniors with the David Moss Vase competition. Almost 60 seniors took part in this event, which was one by Jon Cornish, the current Seniors Captain.

As always, alongside the main 18 hole event, the Seniors run a nine hole competition.

This week’s Stableford was won by Barry Lias. The Seniors Section also had an away friendly at Saunton Golf Club.

On Tuesday, it was the turn of the ladies, with both 18 and a 9 hole competitions.

The 18 hole event, the Mapledoram Cup, was one by Diane Botterill, and the nine hole medal competition was won by Joyce Gilg.

Wednesday it was the regular open 18 hole midweek Stableford, which is a rollup event. Nearly 20 players took part in the competition this week, which was won by our club Captain Gerald Abdoll.

The Saturday Club events are always very well supported. Last week on Saturday, October 3, it was the October medal and Norman Sutton trophy. Almost 90 players took apart in this event and the winner was Darren Goble with a super score of 63.

This Saturday, the main event was the Champions Trophy and Club Medal. Only winners of previous tournaments during the year can win the Champions Trophy.

Another large Field took part in the competition, but on this occasion it was a shotgun start at 9.30 am, with a presentation in the clubhouse at the end of the event. The winner of the trophy was Steve Whyte, but much more on this important day next week.
