DOWNES Crediton Golf Club seniors played their Niblick Stableford on Monday, May 22, with Richard Tomkins scoring a fantastic 43 points to take the victory.
This also gave Richard victory in Division One with Laurie Taylor (39 pts) second and Alan Draper (38 pts) third.
Richard Wilson posted 37 points to win Division Two with David Moss and David Lee second and third both scoring 36 points.
Wednesday’s Midweek stableford (May 24) saw Keith Ware score 41 points to win by a single point from Gerry Tomlinson (40 pts). Stuart Cowling followed in third, posting 39 points, beating Jim Hutchison (39 pts) in fourth by virtue of a better back nine.
Downes ladies played a Team Texas Scramble on Thursday, May 25 and winning with a one under par nett 72 were Lyn Parry, Di Botterill and Betty Willey.
Ros McIntyre, Stephanie Moffat and June Mitchell scored nett 75 to finish second.
The Thursday Evening Stableford saw a tie in first place for Scott Singleton, Paul Singleton and Jerry Thornton all posting 20 points.
On Saturday, May 27, a beautiful warm day, members and visitors competed in the popular Kyrton Pairs Open, a 36 hole pairs stableford, with the format of foursomes in the morning and Betterball in the afternoon.
Winning was the home pair of Darren Clifford and Jason Arnold whose terrific morning foursomes round of 39 points, followed up with a betterball of 42 points, for a 81 point total and a shot victory.
Second place went to Oliver Greenslade and Adam Hull with scores of 32 and 44 for a 76 total and third were Andy Frankum and Quinn Payne-Cook with scores of 33 and 40 for 73.
Downes Crediton Head Professional, Barry Austin enjoyed further success at Tiverton Golf Club when he added the Devon County PGA Matchplay Championship to the Devon County Professional Strokeplay Championship he won in April at Tavistock.
In the first three rounds he enjoyed six and five victories over Neil Holman (Torbay Golf Centre), Duncan Arnold (Warren) and Jack Venn (Borringdon Park) before coming up against Gary Milne of Woodbury Park in the final.
Austin and Milne, who played Devon County golf together more than 27 years ago enjoyed a close battle until a couple of birdies on the back nine saw Austin take a four and three victory to retain the crown.
