AS the summer season moves into autumn there are a number of events that seem to mark the end of the season.

The Seniors and Ladies have an annual pairs competition for the Lyn Ashman Trophy. Although this is for a long standing trophy in the club calendar, the emphasis is on having some friendly banter and a fun time. Over the years this competition has been run, in spite of sustained efforts, the Ladies have only won it once. This year we are very pleased to announce that the Ladies were triumphant, winning 5 out of the 6 matches. Well done to everyone who took part, it was indeed a good afternoon of golf, and the gentlemen were very gracious in defeat!

Another event that took place at this time was the Dartington Cup at Exeter Golf and Country Club. The club is very pleased to report that Downes were able to retain the Cup. This was a well deserved and excellent follow up to last year’s first-ever victory in the East Devon Golf League’s season finale.

It was close match with Downes edging out the hosts on countback to bring the trophy home again! Special mention for Dan Brown, who finished his round four under par gross, and DCGC legend Ken Bones, who delivered the all-important birdie four on the last. His bunker shot to set up the birdie may not make the coaching manual, but the scorecard tells the only story that matters! Well played everyone, a fantastic team effort and a brilliant way to round off the league season!

In other events the Seniors October medal took place this week and was won by Trevor Stone with and excellent score of 65. The Saturday October stableford was won by Robert Whittlestone with 39 points.
