MONDAY, October 24 saw the seniors from Downes Crediton Golf Club play the Michaelmas Stableford sponsored by Tesco with competitors looking to win prizes to sort their festive food!

Martin Howe continued his fine form as he scored a superb 42 points to take the overall prize plus top Division One.

Following in second in Division One was Nick Bromell scoring 38 points. Division Two saw Roger Gratton take the victory scoring 36 points with David Cousins (35pts) finishing second.

In the challenging three Clubs and Putter competition, on Thursday, October 27, Rebecca Aven scored a fine 29 points to claim the top spot. She was followed by Ying Wong (28pts) in second whilst Lyn Parry (28pts) was placed third.

On Saturday, October 29 the Downes men played the annual Daily Mail Foursomes Qualifier and it was the duo of Frank Sanders and Colin Baker who finished top of the pile with a superb nett 67 (three under).

They were followed in second by last year’s champions, Tony Blackburn and Graham Knowles posting a nett 68 with Rohan Hardeman and Paul Hayward (nett 68) third.

Sunday, October 30 saw Downes Crediton host a Junior Pairs Open and on a fine day there was some good scoring.

Home club members Jake Kibbey and Hayden Leach took the victory scoring 41 points with Staddon Heights members Luke Aldous and Nick Locke posting 40 points to follow in second.

Downes members also filled third place as the duo of Liam Whittleston and Danny Carroll scored 40 points.

Sunday, also saw Downes members play the annual Gruesome’s Mixed Competition.

As always there was great camaraderie between all players in a competition that sees partners drawn before play.

Winning and retaining the trophy were the duo of Steve Gidley and Angela Storey with a score of 41 points with William O’Leary and Shirley Stunnel (40pts) following in second.
