ONCE again, with the course in tremendous condition, Downes Crediton Golf Club members took advantage of the fine weather to post some great scores in last week’s competitions.

On Monday, July 25 the Seniors played for the Don McRea Trophy, an individual medal from the yellow tees.

Winning with an impressive four under par nett 66 was Peter Bryan. This also gave Bryan victory in Division Two by one shot from Richard Burston and John Cann who both posted nett 67’s.

Victory in Division One went to Richard Tomkins who scored a nett 67, beating Brian Kelly (nett 67) into second place courtesy of a better back nine.

Alan Lawrence stormed through the back nine in Mid Week Stableford, on Wednesday, July 27, putting together a 41 point haul to take victory by two.

Lawrence’s front nine of level par 18 points gave no indication of what was about to come. Three birdies in a back nine of gross 33, two under par, saw him accumulate a further 23 points for his 41 point total.

Matt Brooks and Jason Arnold followed on in second and third respectively both posting 39 points.

Thursday, July 28 saw the ladies play an individual stableford and Fran Shrubsole took top spot scoring a fine 39 points.

Two points further back in second came Di Parsons (37) with Shirley Stunell third leading a group of ladies on 33 points that included Stacey Ford, Sue Bonner and Sue Jackson.
