ON Saturday, October 22 Downes Crediton Golf Club’s Head Professional, Barry Austin, and his son Daniel took on the “The Big Golf Race” challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK in memory of their dad/gramps.

The challenge which involves playing 72 holes of golf in a day (equivalent of a marathon) saw them start at first light and with the support of members along the way they completed the 72 holes (four rounds of golf) in just under 10 hours finishing at 5pm.

Thank you to all that have so generously donated which, at present, has seen them raise in excess of £1,600.

Frank Sanders was in fine form on Monday, October 17 as he scored a superb 40 points to win overall and take the Hi Hooray Trophy.

Frank also topped Division Two with Rick Eidam (38pts) second and Vaughan Gallavan (36pts) third.

In Division One the victorious Emerton Court Captain, Martin Howe, could still do no wrong as he scored 38 points for victory with Nick Bromell (38pts) following in second.

In tough conditions Lyn Parry finished top of the pile in the Ladies EG Medal 10, on Thursday, October 20, to win the Mapledoram Cup with Ying Wong second and Fran Shrubsole third.

The Thursday Stablefords were a family affair as husband and wife Neville and Rickie Pawsey won their respective nine-hole stableford competitions posting scores of 17 and 13 points.

The final white tee competition of the season was played on Saturday, October 22. Leigh Davis took the overall victory with a score of 37 points. Leigh also topped Division Three with Peter Blinkhorn scoring 34 points to win Division Two whilst Paul Hayward (36pts) topped Division One.
