THE Seniors at Downes Crediton Golf Club held their annual “Devonians” versus “The Rest of the World” match on Monday, July 9 and as always there was a great atmosphere with much chatter and banter between teams.

Fifteen fiercely fought betterball matches, took to the course and, as they did last year, the Devonians prevailed with a 9-6 victory.

At the presentation the Rest of the World Captain, Alan Draper, handed the trophy to the jubilant Devonians Captain Cedric Chapple. A fun day was had by all.

Dave Hill continued his recent good form scoring 39 points to win the Midweek Stableford on Wednesday, July 11. Kevin Smith scored 38 points to take second place.

Rebecca Aven was the star of the show at the Ladies County Stableford Eight on Thursday, July 12 when she posted a superb 44 points to take the victory.

She also topped Division Two beating Ladies Captain Sue Barr (39 pts) into second place whilst Sue Bond (38 pts) followed in third.

Division One saw Ying Wong top score with 36 points whilst Tracey Chandler and Fran Shrubsole both scored 35 points to place second and third respectively.

On Saturday, July 14 Downes members turned out in force to support Club Captain Nick Murch on his Captain’s Day whilst raising money for the Club Charity Parkinsons UK.

On a beautiful day with the course in a terrific condition the winning team were Sue Barr, Ying Wong and Alan Barr, scoring a superb 95 points (23 under par).

Joe Hull, Pete Russell and Rob Dobson posted 86 points to take second place whilst the leading ladies team consisting of Lyn Parry, Fran Shrubsole and Tracey Chandler scored 81 points.

With teams from clubs across the County, Downes Crediton hosted the annual Kirton Cup Open and Devon County Golf Inter Club Team Challenge on Sunday, July 15.

Winning both trophies were the team of Rich Clark, Mike Thompson and Dave Smith representing Elfordleigh with a great score of 85 points.

Two Downes Crediton trios followed closely with Martin Garnsey, Neil Wood and Kev Cole scoring 84 points for second whilst Joe Hull, Simon Baker and Barry Tucker (79 pts) placed third.
