THE Seniors section at Downes Crediton Golf Club played their July medal on Monday, July 3 which saw Gerry Hodder post a fine nett 69 to take the overall victory and also top Division One two.
Gerry’s score was two shots clear of Pete Russell (nett 71) and Colin Parr (nett 71) who finished second and third respectively.
Paul Willcocks won Division Two scoring a nett 70 beating Brian Johnston (nett 70) into second by virtue of a better back nine.
The Ladies Club Championship was held over two days (Tuesday and Thursday, July 4 and 6).
At the end of the first round, Josie Phillips was well in the lead, posting a gross score of 81. Round two saw some very close gross scores posted with only four shots separating the first three players.
A new trophy, the Mapson Trophy, was presented for the lowest gross score on either day.
This was presented to Tracey Chandler who posted a gross score of 86 in the second round.
The Les Pope Trophy, for the lowest handicap score over the two days, was presented to Ladies Captain, Shirley Stunell, with a net 139.
The Ladies Championship trophy was presented to Josie Phillips, with an overall gross score of 165.
Downes members competed for the Shiphams Trophy on Wednesday, July 5 which saw some superb scoring.
Mike Allen took top spot and the trophy scoring 42 points fending off Patrick McVeigh (41 pts) into second. David Hill and Rodin Mackay followed in third and fourth place both posting 39 points.
This week’s winner of the Thursday evening (July 6) stableford was Paul Singleton with 20 points.
More than 100 members took to the course for a shotgun start on Saturday afternoon (July 8) taking part in Captain’s Day and raising money for the Captain’s charity, The Honeylands Children’s Charity.
Playing a three-player Texas Scramble, Tony Blackburn, Wayne Moore and Graham Knowles posted the best score of the day, a nett 64, in the mens section.
The ladies winners were Fran Shrubsole, Judith Ezard and Lyn Parry scoring a nett 69 whilst Clive Elliott, Betty Willey and Alan Willey took the best mixed prize with a nett score of 67.
