MONDAY, June 27 saw Senior members of Downes Crediton Golf Club play an individual Stableford from the yellow tees.
Two players, Ian Pring and Laurie Taylor, managed to break par with one under 37’s but victory, courtesy of a better back nine, went to Pring. Tom Berry followed on in third place scoring a level par 36 points.
Robbie Hallam dominated the Mid Week Stableford on Wednesday, June 29 scoring 40 points to beat his nearest challengers, Rodin Mackay (35) and Jim Hutchison (35), into second and third place by five clear points.
An extremely tough day lay in wait for the ladies playing their EWGA Medal on Thursday, June 30. Three ladies scored best of the day nett 82’s but winning overall, with a better back nine, was Sue Bond. Stacey Ford and Ying Wong, also with nett 82, finished second and third.
Saturday, July 2 saw Downes Men compete in the July Medal and Hazelton Trophy.
On a tough day, with showers and a strong wind, scoring was far from easy but last year’s Captain, Tristan Kershaw, managed to tame the course and take victory with a fine nett 69.
In Division One Robin Abrahams and Rodin Mackay also posted one under par 69’s but with inferior back nines they finished second and third respectively behind Kershaw.
Division Two saw Dave Hill take top spot with a nett 70, one shot clear of second and third placed Ashley Cross and John Piper both shooting 71’s.
Podge Edgecumbe took the honours in Division Three after scoring a nett 73 with Matt Redstone second and last week’s Buller Bowl Champion, Neil Wood, third both scoring nett 74.
The best gross score of the day was a 75 scored by Rodin Mackay.
