THE Leader of Exeter City Council has said the whole of the city is behind its football team in Saturday’s big FA Cup clash with Premier League giants Manchester City.

An incredible 7,800 Exeter City fans will travel to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday hoping for a cup upset against one of the best footballing sides in Europe.

Exeter City Council Leader Phil Bialyk – a big football fan himself, as well as a local football referee – said: “It’s fantastic effort to take nearly 8,000 fans up to Manchester. Although we can’t all be at the game we will all be right behind the team and willing them on come 3pm on Saturday.

“I would like to wish the team all the best for Saturday and congratulate the club on getting through to the third round of the FA Cup for a second year running, which is no mean achievement itself.

“Exeter City FC leads the way with its supporter-led club and the achievements of the team and their cup run are an inspiration to local football teams in Exeter and Devon. I have no doubt the club, along with the thousands of supporters travelling to Manchester will do the city proud on Saturday. Come on you Grecians!”
