A SPECIAL party was held for a very special lady at the Crediton home in which she has lived for the past two years.

Iris Northcott was honoured to receive a birthday card from King Charles and Queen Camilla and on the day received a card and flowers from the Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Liz Brookes-Hocking.

Iris was born on November 17 in 1923 at Chulmleigh.

She attended the local school with her younger brother and sister.

She started work in a laundry in Okehampton before starting training for the Post Office in Taunton during the Second World War.

Iris attended Crediton Congregational Church and sang in the choir and was also the church organist.

She was involved with the Townswomen’s Guild in Crediton for more than 25 years.

She lived independently for many years and moved to Kenwyn Residential Home in the town when she was 98.

The Mayor of Crediton wished Iris a “Very Happy Birthday” and congratulated her on reaching such a notable age.

Danny Ruddock, manager, Kenwyn Residential Home, said: “Iris has been with us for two years and is a delight.

“She is a valued member of the Kenwyn Home community and we are proud and privileged to be with her on her special day.”

Many friends and family attended her celebration party, including most of her four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A fantastic spread of food, including three celebration cakes, 1, 0, 0, were enjoyed.

Instead of gifts, donations were welcomed in aid of the Bramble Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
