CATHIE Holden, who heads up the Crediton Community Bookshop’s (CCB) Schools Team, talked to The Prince of Wales about the bookshop’s outreach programme during his visit to North Devon at an event to showcase charities and community groups.

CCB was invited to attend the showcase after having been presented with the Prince of Wales Award at the Devon County Show in May.

The CCB Schools Outreach Programme promotes a love of books and reading by taking authors into schools, introducing new books to children and offering discounted book-fairs.

"We are often told how much these visits support primary schools, how pupils are frequently inspired to read more and try new authors after a CCB event, and that teachers value the opportunity to see new books,” said Cathie.

HRH was presented with a picture book for his grandchildren by local author Amy Sparkes who has worked with the CCB schools programme.
