A VERY successful Open meeting celebrating Crediton Flower Club’s 40th year was enjoyed on September 10 with a delightful and inspiring demonstration by Alison Penno from Launceston.

Alison shares a floristry business with her mother, teaches, demonstrates and has been extremely successful with her exhibits at the Royal Chelsea Show.

She produced stunning arrangements on her chosen theme “Celebrations” and to begin chose to design a modern arrangement for her Mid-Summer’s day interpretation.

Using yellow tulips, calla lilies and proteas she produced a brilliant display.

Next, the innovative use of a wine box covered with wool strips was used to display the subtle colours of pink/blue hydrangeas together with white gerberas and beautiful vanda orchids.

Mop-head chincherinchees, albums and steel grass contributed to the height of this very striking arrangement.

The beautiful colours of Harvest were cleverly portrayed in Alison’s next arrangement where she used fatsia, crab apple, sunflowers, crysanths and rubs to decorate a Harvest sheaf which was most effective.

Party mood next and a celebration of colour for this 18th birthday design.

A long vertical glass filled with fruit produced a cocktail of spider crysanths, sprayed palm leaf, crisped, strelitzia, pink roses and a lemon. A real run arrangement.

For the finale - a traditional arrangement to portray a Ruby Wedding Anniversary, her container being a very large urn filled with a profusion of ruby, burgundy and pink flowers - hydrangeas, roses, antirrhinums, gladioli to name a few. The result was magnificent.

Congratulations to Alison for a wonderful evening.

Mary Tasker gave a vote of thanks complimenting Alison on her variety of styles, colours and skill.

Gay Mullins, chairman, thanked members for providing the bring and share supper which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The next meeting will be the AGM and will be held at the Boniface Centre, Crediton, on Thursday, October 8 at 7.15pm.
