THERE was praise for Crediton’s VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations and commemorations held at Crediton Town and Hamlets War Memorial, not least from one of those who attended the morning ceremony and who remembered VE Day well.

Molly Strong (91), from Crediton, said that the Crediton ceremony held during the morning of Thursday, May 8 was “very special” and “fitting”.

It included a welcome by the Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Guy Cochran, prayers by Rev Matthew Tregenza, poems by students from Queen Elizabeth’s School, readings by by Mike May from Crediton Royal British Legion, a wreath laid by RBL president Henry Parker and the Last Post played by a member of Crediton Town Band.

The Union flag was raised and pupils from Hayward’s School and the public also attended.
