THE Grinch is set to make an appearance at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on event on Saturday, November 29.
The fictional Dr Seuss character, who plots to steal Christmas but then has a change of heart, will be there “for anyone still struggling to find their festive cheer”, Crediton Town Council said.
The event will be held from 1pm to 6pm in Crediton Town Square.
It will feature a Christmas market, food and drink stalls, live music from local choirs and QE indie band Burnt Daylight, Morris dancers, a chance to meet Santa in his grotto, family activities and more. Many shops will also be staying open late.
The Christmas lights on the 25-foot-tall tree will be switched on at 5pm. Children are invited to take part in a lantern and light parade beforehand. Participants should bring their own lights or borrow a lantern from the town council and assemble at the top of North Street at 4.40pm.
“There’s something for everyone at this year’s Christmas in Crediton lights switch-on – even if you’re a Grinch,” said a Crediton Town Council spokesperson.
“Crediton Town Council is delighted to present the annual festive celebration, offering a full day of music, food, entertainment and seasonal surprises in the Town Square.
“Visitors can browse a wide range of local traders offering festive gifts, handmade items and an impressive spread of street food.
“Families can also get creative with local DAISI artists Jess Carvill and James Hedge, who will be running free drop-in workshops for children to make their own Christmas decorations.
“Further activities for young people will be available throughout the day, supported by Crediton Town Council’s Youth Service.
“MC Rob Pudner will guide attendees through the day’s events, supported by his ever-popular snow machine.
“With the town united in celebration, Crediton aims to warm even the coldest, grinchiest heart this Christmas.”
