ALL trains through Crediton have been cancelled due to flooding after Storm Chandra brought heavy rain overnight.

Both the Dartmoor and Tarka lines between Exeter and Okehampton and Exeter and Barnstaple are expected to be shut for the rest of the day until the water level drops.

“When flood water rises above certain levels trains may have to reduce their speed or be unable to run through the affected area because debris may have moved onto the rails, or the ground underneath the track may have washed away,” a GWR spokesperson said.

“Flooding can also affect the power supply to the signalling systems or the overhead power lines the trains use.”

If you have bought a train ticket, it can be used at no extra cost on 5, 5A, 5B and 5C buses where they are able to travel.

If you arrive at your destination 15 or more minutes late because your train was cancelled, you can apply for Delay Repay compensation.
