THE Tedburn St Mary Village Fair, which had been due to be held in September, has been cancelled.

Organisers of the 120th iteration said it had become too expensive to use the field the yearly event is normally held in after “a change in the tenancy”.

“It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Tedburn fair will not be happening this year,” said a spokesperson for the organising committee.

“Over the past few months the committee has been working incredibly hard to secure the fair field following a change in the tenancy.

“Unfortunately, the cost of the one-year agreement to use the field was simply beyond what the fair could afford.

“As a non-profit community event run entirely by volunteers, we simply could not commit to costs at that level.

“Despite exhausting every possible option, we have been left with no choice but to cancel the event, just a month before it was due to take place.

“We are absolutely devastated especially with the fair only a month away. We know how much the fair means to our village and we are so sorry to everyone who was looking forward to attending, volunteering, performing, exhibiting or supporting the event this year.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us.

“The committee will now be working towards securing a longer term agreement with the landowners and we very much hope to welcome you back to a bigger and better fair in 2027 and for many years to come.”

Last year’s fair, which took place on September 13, was the 119th time it had been held.

Taking place from noon until dusk, there was live music, a dog show, a variety of vintage vehicles, a craft and flower show, local food and drink, live music and more.
