ON Wednesday, August 12, Luca Vaccari will return to Crediton Arts Centre to present a new selection of contemporary dance theatre works, Movement Anthology.

Luca grew up in Crediton, attending Earlybirds, Landscore and QE and was involved in many of the theatre projects and groups in the town; Crediton Youth Theatre, CODS and QE Theatre Academy productions.

This rich underpinning of arts education from a young age inspired him to do a dance degree at Falmouth University.

Since then, he has been travelling around the world teaching dance technique and performing original choreography. He is currently studying ‘MA Performance: Design and Practice’ at Central St Martins.

His first full length show, In the Round, made in collaboration with Yuxi Jiang, was supported by Keep it Fringe funding at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and last summer the show was programmed at Crediton Arts Centre.

Movement Anthology builds upon Luca’s interest in themes of belonging and clothing as a means of exploring identity and intergenerational connection.

Joining him on stage are local artists and friends, Millie Parker and Philip Robinson.

Millie is a Devon based dance artist who trained at Trinity Laban and JV2. Her recent choreographic work has been shown at Barnstaple Fringe, Totnes Fringe and more widely across the south-west as she roots her practice in the place she calls home.

Millie will be performing a new solo work that reflects on the nostalgia of growing up in rural Devon.

Crediton-based Philip Robinson has spent the last 45 years working creatively in Devon: theatre performer/creator, musical director for Peter Hamilton’s Shakespeare In The Square, running arts workshops for people living with learning difficulties, disabilities, or mental health challenges.

He’s really looking forward to collaborating with Luca, having performed as part of a contemporary dance ensemble (including at The Northcott Theatre) - mind you, he was much younger in those days!

There is a further opportunity to learn more about Luca’s artistic practice in an upcoming dance workshop on August 9.
