ON Saturday and Sunday, August 1 and 2, Reverend Jeremy Putnam, Crediton Benefice Associate Priest and Team Missioner for the Crediton and North Creedy Ministry Team, is taking on an extraordinary challenge.
He will be "beating the bounds" by walking between all 27 village churches across the Crediton benefice - covering a massive 100 kilometres (over 62 miles) in just two days.
Jeremy is stepping up to raise vital funds that will keep the heart of our rural communities beating and is asking for support to help him cross the finish line.
He explained: “In every single one of our 27 villages, there is a Church of England church. These aren't just historic landmarks; they are symbols of a faith that has been the bedrock of our communities for centuries.
“Every day, a dedicated network of generous, willing volunteers gives their time to maintain these beautiful historic buildings and keep their doors open to all. But keeping these spaces alive requires more than just goodwill.”
He said donations would support
• People & Communities: Funding vital day-to-day ministry, care, and outreach that brings people together. Including work with local schools, families, and children's work.
• Historic Buildings: Helping to fund the ongoing administrative running costs and upkeep of these cherished community spaces.
• Shared Ministry: To help help make Christian ministry through baptisms, weddings, and pastoral ministry more available and accessible.
He added: “Mission and ministry is always about people. It’s about being there for our neighbours in times of joy and times of hardship, ensuring no one in our rural villages is left isolated.”
The walk will begin 7am in Lapford on August 1 and will finish in Morchard Bishop on Sunday, August 2 at 8pm.
