ONCE again, despite changeable weather, the 23 members of Crediton Probus Club, plus two guests, arrived at Downes Crediton Golf Club to find sunny, warm weather. We have certainly been lucky over the past year or so.
Following the established pattern of the meetings, we were welcomed by our new President, Burford Cupper, who then called upon Hubert Fernbank to say grace, which was followed by a most enjoyable meal.
The assembled company were invited to stand for the Loyal Toast, after which John Tutton gave a most amusing quotation on the subject of Scottish Blood!
Mention was then made of members’ birthdays for the coming month and this was followed by a summary of news of sick members. Sadly a rather long list.
The monthly draw was won by John Tutton – no connection between the quotation and the prize!
Finally Ray King introduced our speakers Brian and Jane Inwood, who live in Christow.
They gave us a talk, with slides, about the work of The Umoja Project, which operates in the Diocese of Thika in Kenya.
Umoja means togetherness in Swahili, and through the work of this organisation which is supported by the Anglican Church in Kenya, the local people have been helped out of poverty, and given the skills to improve their lives and the lives within their communities.
For those who might be interested in helping with this work, or hearing more about the project, they should email: [email protected]
On conclusion of this interesting presentation, and after a number of questions had been asked – and answered, the speakers were thanked on our behalf by John Clifton.
The meeting was closed in the customary way by the President calling on us all to drink “To the next time”.
