CHERITON Fitzpaine Garden Club celebrated its 100th birthday on Saturday, June 20; a community event a year in the planning and funded in part by a Community Fund grant from the National Lottery.

Celebrations began with a croissant breakfast, then a talk by gardener and broadcaster Toby Buckland.
A barbecue lunch followed, before a wonderful floral art demonstration by Paula Cripps of Petals Florist, in Exeter.

There was plenty to keep youngsters entertained, including a planting activity, face painting plus garden games.
Most popular was the ice cream trike, with adults and children alike.

A spectacular centenary cake, crafted by Lyn Porter, was cut before a traditional cream tea and entertainment by the Ad Hoc singers.
Evening celebrations included music from the Chris Ostler Band, followed by a disco.
