THE death of Barnstaple teenager Taylor Charlton is no longer being treated as suspicious, police have said.

A large-scale search operation was launched after the 14-year-old was reported missing three months ago.

He was last seen on Friday, May 8 near Tarka Leisure Centre heading in the direction of the River Taw.

A body, which was later confirmed to belong to Taylor Charlton, was found on Wednesday, June 24 in the River Taw near Sticklepath.

A man in his 20s and a woman in her 40s were arrested on suspicion of his murder in two separate lines of enquiry. They are no longer suspects and will face “no further policing action”.

Police will now prepare a file for the coroner.

“These arrests were made as part of our commitment to fully investigating all avenues of enquiry and leaving no stone unturned in finding answers for Taylor’s family,” Detective Inspector Elaine Westerman of Devon and Cornwall Police said.

“Following a full and thorough investigation, we are satisfied that neither of these individuals have had any involvement in Taylor’s disappearance or death.

“There is currently no indication of any third-party involvement in Taylor’s death, which is not being treated as suspicious. A file will now be prepared for HM Coroner.

“Taylor’s family have been updated on these developments and continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

“Our thoughts and sympathies remain with them along with Taylor’s friends and the local community.

“We are asking members of the public to help us by avoiding speculation and by not sharing any unconfirmed information online.”
