FOUR cars on Park Street in Crediton had their wing mirrors vandalised or torn off just after midnight on Tuesday, December 30.
The incident is thought to have taken place at around 12.10am. CCTV footage shared with the Courier appears to show three youngsters heading towards the scene before “smashing” noises were heard coming from the direction of the vehicles.
The trio then reportedly continued up Park Street before turning either right towards Spruce Park or left towards Winswood.
The damage caused is estimated to be worth more than £1,200.
“The impact on the owners has been serious,” said one of the victims, who wanted to remain anonymous.
“One elderly lady, who had parked her car to visit family over Christmas, found her car damaged and was forced to take a train instead.
“Another owner, unwell with an ear infection, only discovered the damage when her son informed her, ruining her plans to visit relatives.
“Beyond the cost of repairs, all owners have faced added travel expenses, inconvenience, and anxiety about parking their cars in the same area again.
“This isn’t harmless fun – it’s mindless destruction with real consequences for ordinary people.
“We hope that by sharing this story, parents and the community will step in, ensure accountability, and help prevent this happening again.”
Police are investigating the incident. If you saw what happened, know anything about it or have relevant dashcam or door camera footage, contact the force online or by telephoning 101 quoting crime reference 5025 033 2009.
A spate of vandalism has hit Crediton in recent weeks. In Newcombes Meadow, a recently planted tree was snapped in half; on Union Road, a bus stop window was smashed and artwork on the nearby toilet block torn down; and at a community space off Four Mills Lane, new art installations were destroyed.
