SOUTH MOLTON 1ST XV 50-6 CREDITON RFC 2ND XV

THE 2nd XV welcomed South Molton’s 1st XV to Blagdon, and after a tight, hard-fought first half, the visitors made full use of the slope and the conditions to pull away after the break.

Molton won the toss and chose to play uphill in the opening period. Despite this they were able to apply plenty of pressure, carrying hard and controlling territory well.

Our defensive effort was immense, repelling phase after phase. At the break, with two penalties to one try, we held a slender 6-5 lead.

With the slope now in their favour, Molton shifted gears. Strong, direct running combined with a few missed tackles allowed them to build momentum and rack up the tries.

We never stopped working, there were big defensive sets, brave carries, and no shortage of heart, but Molton used the conditions superbly and kept the scoreboard moving.

Despite the effort and commitment from the home side, the visitors proved very effective downhill and closed out the game convincingly to win 6-50.

A tough second half, but plenty of positives from the opening 40 and the attitude shown throughout. The lads fronted up, defended with pride, and stayed in the fight to the final whistle.

Coming up on Saturday, March 7: 1st XV v Teignmouth (A), 2nd XV v Devonport Services (A), 3rd XV v Exmouth (H), Colts XV v TBC.
