WINSCOMBE RFC 19-57 CREDITON RFC 1ST XV

AFTER months of hard work, preparation and commitment throughout the summer, we finally had the opportunity to put everything into practice, and the performance perfectly embodied the focuses we have worked so hard on over the past few months.

From the first whistle to the last, the intensity, discipline and togetherness were exactly what we had demanded of ourselves.

Our dominant defence set the tone. We were aggressive, connected and relentless, putting pressure on the opposition and refusing to give them easy opportunities. That defensive effort, combined with an outstanding set piece, gave us the platform to play with freedom and confidence when we had the ball.

There was some fantastic attacking rugby throughout the afternoon, with pace, ambition and a willingness to play what was in front of us. The highlight was undoubtedly a try line to try line team try from a turnover. A score that perfectly demonstrated the rugby we want to play. Win the ball, back ourselves, support each other and attack with intent. It was a fantastic example of the work that has gone in during pre-season coming together on the pitch.

What makes the performance even more impressive is that we went into the game without a large contingent of senior players, who were away at a wedding - the players who stepped up were outstanding.

Every single one of them showed the commitment, intensity and desire to play for the shirt. That is what made the performance so pleasing.

A convincing win, a fantastic team performance and the perfect way to start the season.
