BIDEFORD 1ST XV 43-26 CREDITON 2ND XV

PROMOTION into Counties 2 Devon was always going to pose challenges for the 2nd XV, particularly as many of the opposition are 1st XVs. This was another tough encounter against a strong Bideford side, who ran hard and with purpose.

It was their work in close quarters which saw them take the lead though, but we responded quickly and Fred Clark muscled his way over.

Bideford continued to attack, putting us under pressure and scoring a couple of tries in quick succession. Regaining some composure, we were able to secure some possession and put together some attacking play of our own. After some close work by the forwards, Chris Hooper forced his way over for our second try.

Down, but not out, we headed into the second half, but Bideford once again started strongly, and some defensive lapses saw us concede a couple more tries. The game looked to be over but, as is the Kirton way, the lads didn't give up.

Our pick-and-go game was pretty effective and after a few goes, James Dodge found some space and crossed the line. Unfortunately, Bideford came straight back with another score of their own but we had the final word when Tom Ronchetti put in a lovely cross field kick for Ollie Clark to gather and touch down for a bonus point try and a final score of 26-43.

Coming up this Saturday, October 25, the 1st XV welcome Okehampton to Blagdon, the 3rd XV host Exeter Saracens and the Colts head to Brixham. We look forward to welcoming Graphic plc and CMC Eakers as our match day sponsors.

On Sunday, the Women’s XV take on Okehampton in the National Cup.
