DOWNES Crediton Golf Club saw the men play the Champion's Trophy on a rainy Saturday last month, the match followed by the end of season presentation.

Only winners of competitions which took place at the club during the year are eligible to play in the Champion's Trophy match - the players all with an ultimate aim to be crowned the Champion of Champions.

This year's winner was Matthew Russell, who fired a superb nett 63.

Matt, who also won the Handicap Order of Merit this year, has seen his handicap get reduced from 28 to 17 and proves why he is one of the club's up-and-coming stars in Downes Crediton's Junior Section.

Second was Garry Pell, who scored a brilliant 65 with Gary Greenwood third with a nett 69.

Awards were presented by the club captain, Stephen Whyte, the ceremony assistants the club professional Barry Austin and his assistant, Devon Greenslade.
